Week in Review: 8/4/13

Movies I Watched This Week

1) The Station Agent - An enjoyable and meandering movie.  Kinda nice every once in awhile to see a movie that just really doesn't care too much about having a narrative so much as having a lot of really good, individual set-pieces.  If you only know Peter Dinklage from Game of Thrones, then you should really check this one out.

My Rating:  3.5 / 5

2) The Last Stand - Stephanie didn't like this one a whole lot, but I had a great time.  It's everything I could've wanted out of a collaboration between Arnie and Kim Ji-Woon.  Johnny Knoxville blows up a guy with a flare gun.  Watch it.

My Rating: 4 / 5

3) Wild Target - This was a pretty fun movie.  Rupert Grint should be in more stuff.  His timing is impeccable.

My Rating: 3.5 / 5

4) Friends With Kids - This was a decent movie impeded by a kinda weird premise and buried in a lot of unnecessary drama.  I dig that they were going for an unconventional family and I wish they had stuck with that idea rather than just making it another romantic comedy where a guy finds himself at the last minute and has a revelation about commitment.

My Rating: 3 / 5

5) The Warlords - I was kinda bored by this one honestly.  It's no Red Cliff, I'll tell you that.

My Rating: 2.5 / 5

6) Patrick, Age 1.5 - This is possibly the cutest and most heartwarming movie I've seen all year.  Everybody who's not an asshole owes it to themselves to watch it.  If you watch it and you don't find yourself enjoying life a little more, then you're probably an asshole.  So... get yourself tested, and watch Patrick, Age 1.5.

My Rating: 5 / 5

7) Narcotic Justice - A write-up is coming soon.

My Rating: (Wait for it)

Total: 7 Movies

Minutes I Spent Writing

1) I Need A Job - About 6 hours total, spread across the week.  Current novel length:  78,441 words.  (Estimated Progress to First Draft: 100%)

2) The Tale of 100 Stories - About 1 hour.  (First Draft complete, revisions in progress.)

Total: 7 hours.

The Winner:  Minutes!

I'm cheating a bit on this one.  Technically it's a tie, but seeing as how I finished the first draft of I Need A Job, I feel that I'm entitled to give myself a little victory this week.  More details on the novel to come.
