Week in Review: 2/16/14

Movies I Watched in the Last Week

1) I Sell the Dead - I feel like I've been on a roll with grave-robber movies in the last few months, after watching Burke and Hare and The Undertaker and His Pals.  I Sell the Dead is definitely the best one so far, but it still felt somehow a little bit soft.  I don't know what that says about me that a movie about grave-robbing does not inherently seem outrageous.  Anyway, if you plan to watch a movie on the subject, this one's your best bet.

My Rating:  3 / 5

2) Prisoners - This was a well-acted thriller with good pacing and a solid premise, build-up, and payoff.  But it also was about twenty minutes longer than it needed to be and managed to justify torture in a roundabout way, so I don't know, maybe I should dock it a few more points.

My Rating:  4 / 5

The Winner:  A Complete Shutout.  (Insert sad face here.)

So... do I blame the fact that I was listening to the audiobook of Gone Girl all week during my writing time, or do I try to find an excuse in the fact that I've been pretty sick for the last few days, or do I just admit defeat and vow to come out swinging for the next week?  I guess I'll go for that last one.  It's a lot easier to think about a sunny tomorrow than to put up an umbrella today.
