Week in Review: 9/28/14

Movies I Watched in the Last Week

1) Pompeii - Paul W.S. Anderson has this talent for making terrible movies that are utterly watchable.  He's basically a more likable and charming Michael Bay.  So while I know that I should't recommend Pompeii to anyone, I still generally had a good time with it.  Just one problem (well, a bunch, really, but only one I'm going to mention)... isn't it kind of silly to try to give people stakes through a revenge story when your entire plot is set against the backdrop of inevitable and all-encompassing death?

My Rating: 3 / 5

2) Slumdog Millionaire - After six years of missed opportunities, I've finally seen this one the whole way through.  Pretty damn good movie.  Have you guys heard of it?  It's obscure, I know.

My Rating: 5 / 5

3) Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) - I'll have to get into this in a bit more detail some other time to compare to its two remakes, but I had a great time with this movie.  It's the perfect way to ring in the Halloween season.

My Rating: 4 / 5

The Winner:  Movies...

I'm slumming it this week.  Recuperating from a cold and an explosion of activity the week before.  I guess at some point I'll get off my ass and publish that book.
