Week in Review: 12/20/15

Movies I Watched in the Last Week

1) Ex Machina - I didn't follow any reviews when this one came out - has anybody complained about the horrifying undercurrent of misogyny?  Because if not... somebody should.  I mean, damn.  It's a movie where literally every actress who appears in it was required to be fully nude and no woman can be trusted because they're all manipulative murderers.  But if you look past that, this is a pretty great science fiction thriller.

My Rating: 4 / 5

2) Treasure Planet - This is a by-the-numbers kids' movie based on a well-known piece of classic literature, so there's really not much you can say about it being fresh or innovative.  Nevertheless, the character / ship / creature designs were pretty neat and it's well-made, so it's a pleasant way to spend an hour and a half with a kid who's only mildly interested in the screen.

My Rating: 3.5 / 5

3) Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams - I watched this for my side blog.  I appreciated the energy and I loved the visuals, but some terrible kid acting really sinks this one.  That and the creepy feeling I got from watching a kids' movie by myself.

My Rating: 2 / 5

Total: 3 Movies

Minutes I Spent Writing in the Last Week

1) Untitled Post-Apocalyptic Novel - About an hour of story planning and about 2 hours of actual writing. Current first draft length: About 22,000 words.

Total: 3 Hours

The Winner: A Tie.

I'm pleased to report this week that I actually did some work.  Feels pretty good to get back into my book after almost 2 months of inactivity.
