Movies I Watched in the Last Week

1) First Response - I was shocked - shocked - to find out this was a TV movie made for Lifetime.  (I think technically it was made by a European production company and then licensed by Lifetime for US distribution, but whatever.)  I would have sworn up and down that it was an independent production by some newcomer.  It's made really well and scratches that itch for a contained, low-key thriller.  There are rough edges; you can see where budget constraints and a lack of polish in the script give it a kind of amateurish quality.  Even so, this is worth a watch if you need to kill ninety minutes.

My Rating: 3.5 / 5

2) Vacation (2015) - I haven't checked out the Rotten Tomatoes score for this movie yet, but I imagine it's probably pretty low.  My guess is that most people see it as a shallow, cynical cash-grab devoid of new ideas.  That's probably not totally inaccurate.  Even so, there's enough heart and a few decent jokes that make it mostly work.  It falls into the category of "way better than you'd expect."

My Rating: 3 / 5

The Winner: Movies...

Ugh.  Between jury duty, a week from hell at my day job, a crappy cold, and a busy weekend fixing stuff up around the house, I'm surprised I even managed to get my blog updated.  Fingers crossed I get some writing done next week.
