Movies I Watched in the Last Week
1) Green Room - I'm definitely going to write more about this later so I can gush about how awesome it is. "Awesome" might be the wrong word, actually... that kinda makes it sound like "just a fun time at the movies." I'm looking for something more like "a harrowing, heart-wrenching look into the abyss of terror and brutality." Anyway, it's an excellent film. Definitely a must-watch for horror / thriller fans.
My Rating: 5 / 5
2) Deadpool - I'm going to borrow a phrase from the Bad Movie Fiends podcast, which I recently discovered, and say that I "Internet hate" this movie. It's pretty good overall with some very funny moments and good action scenes, but if I'm being honest, Ryan Reynolds got on my nerves after about half an hour. He's sorta funny, but not really clever. He reminds me of that one borderline obnoxious cousin you have who's a good performer when he repeats gags and memes he's heard in passing. If you ask him to come up with original material, he can, but it feels weak - almost superficial. He shouldn't be allowed to improv very much, is what I'm saying. Tellingly, the best jokes in the movie are the ones that were clearly scripted, like the post-suiting-up-montage reveal. There's enough of that kinda stuff that I had a good time.
My Rating: 4 / 5
